“Lynette was my best friend. We grew up without really knowing our parents. Dad was on drugs and alcohol for most of his life and I never knew my mum. All we had were each other. I don’t know how I was to her but Lynette was the best sister a younger brother could ever have.” – Kenneth Chin-
Kenneth Chin has personally lost his own sister when he was 18 years old. She took her own life a few weeks before her 21st birthday and since then, he has vowed to never allow another young person come to a place where taking their own life is a solution.
Breathe is a series exploring the emotions, facts and experiences of everyday Malaysians who are wanting to end their own lives. The intention of documenting this is to bring light and understanding to this taboo topic of suicide.
We want to be able to find a way to get people to keep “breathing” and calm down before they go to the lengths of intentionally causing their own death.
And no matter how dark the circumstances are, there is always light at the end of the tunnel – there is always hope.
